Second Annual
Sheila Witkin Memorial Concert
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
LOS ANGELES/FORT LAUDERDALE – Bruce Witkin and Martin Chaddock of the Sheila Witkin Foundation in Los Angeles announced this week that the Second Annual Sheila Witkin Memorial Reunion Concert will be held on Friday, August 29th and Saturday, August 30th at Club Cinema, 3251 North Federal Highway in Pompano Beach beginning at 8PM. Doors open at 7PM.
The first Sheila Witkin Memorial Reunion Concert was held on January 28th, 2007, and was included in the critically acclaimed documentary film Rock and a Hard Place: Another Night at the Agora that teamed veteran filmmakers Diane Jacques of Hypoluxo Pictures and Aaron Wells of Silver Beach Productions who chronicled the explosive original South Florida rock music scene of the late 1970’s and early 1980’s. The film will be screened in conjunction with the Sheila Witkin Memorial Reunion Concert at the historic Cinema Paradiso at 503 SE 6th Street in Fort Lauderdale at 6PM on Friday and 5:30PM on Saturday, and will include exclusive interview and performance footage not seen previously. Last year’s concert lineup included the talents of Blank Tape, Charlie Pickett, Critical Mass, Z-Cars, Slyder, Tight Squeeze, The Kids featuring Johnny Depp, and a surprise performance by members of The Romantics.
The 2008 concert lineup includes Charlie Pickett, Mad as Birds (with Debbie and Susan of The Cichlids), Critical Mass, Z-Cars, The Reactions with members of Circus of Power, Slyder, Tight Squeeze, The Romantics and The Kids. The concert is being hosted by Mel T of Rock on Entertainment Management (ROEM) and Neal Mirsky, former programming director of legendary South Florida rock station WSHE (She’s Only Rock and Roll).
Advance general admission tickets for the “all ages” concert event are currently on sale at ticketmaster for $32.50 for a single night, or $55 for both Friday and Saturday. Tickets to the film are $9 for general admission, $7 for students and $5 for members of the Fort Lauderdale International Film Festival. The film and concert are expected to play to sellout audiences.
The concert and film events are being sponsored by The Las Olas Company, The Riverside Hotel on Las Olas Boulevard, Club Cinema, DM Records and Mako Vodka. Proceeds from the concert benefit the Dan Marino and Sheila Witkin Foundations.
